Since the year 2000, Delcampe is a website where collectors and passionate people from all around the world can meet. Delcampe does not only give the opportunity to sell and buy, it is also a place where members can share their ideas or ask for help and information.
  return

Sébastien Delcampe, the founder of the website, happened to be fond of collections and computer science. He used to be a seller on a Belgian website where all kinds of items were sold. By then, Sébastien thought that a website specific to the world of collecting was missing. This is how Delcampe.com came to light and is offering specialized services to collectors ever since.
  return

In a few words, if the Delcampe Team shapes the body of the website, the members are the soul of it. Since the beginning, the reputation of Delcampe is spreading among collectors by word to mouth. This is mainly because we have always been doing our utmost to offer the best services fitting the needs of the members. If we do what the majority wants, they can only speak well of the website.

Delcampe is a website where collectors can sell and buy items. Most of the items are sold at auction but can also be sold at a fixed price. Delcampe does not buy or sell anything. The website is just an intermediary between sellers and buyers and its purpose is to put them in touch.
Said differently, sellers can place their items on Delcampe and buyers will bid on them. When the auction ends, each member gets the personal info of the other one so they can contact each other and proceed with the payment and delivery.
Once they have found an agreement, the buyer pays and the seller ships the item.
When the transaction is over, members can leave a feedback so other members can later see if the seller or the buyer are reliable. Checking members' feedbacks or feedbacks can be done easily by clicking on their nicknames.
  return

Unfortunately, because we are lacking time and skills in some specific fields, we cannot make valuations. However, do not hesitate to ask your question on our Forum :
www.delcampe.com/forum_index.php?language=E
Some learned members will be very likely to help you.
  return

All the information you need to contact us is on our homepage when you click on “Help & Contact” or “Contact Us”.
  return

To see a diagram of how Delcampe works, click here.
1- To list an item for sale
When listing a new item for sale, you need to fill in a form you can find on the page of your sale. On this form, you have to sign in thanks to your nickname and password. Then, you have to type the minimum price you want the auctions to start at for your item. Listing an item on Delcampe is free.
2 - To pay an item
After each successful sale or auction, Delcampe sends automatically to the buyer the information needed for him to proceed with the payment. Usually, sellers propose different payment methods. The buyer chooses which one he prefers among all the possibilities.
3 - To ship an item
The seller also receives information about his buyer in order for him to proceed with the delivery
4 –When the transaction is all over
Both the seller and the buyer can leave a feedback regarding the transaction and the seller pays a reasonable commission on the sale price.
In brief, members are the only ones taking care of their own transactions thanks to their own private account which enable them to watch their sales or purchases.
Sellers list their items on sale themselves and buyers make offers.
When a transaction is successful, emails are sent to the buyer and the seller with the information needed for them to proceed with the payment and delivery.
If for a reason or another a sale is cancelled despite a buyer's offer placed on it, the seller can still fill in an Unpaid Item Form in order to save himself from paying commissions on this sale.
Finally, thanks to our feedback system, each member knows who he is dealing with just by clicking on his nickname.
  return

(See also “Why Delcampe is safe? feedbacks”)

Most of Delcampe members are honest and reliable. This is most probably why thousands of transactions are performed each day without any incident.
After each transaction, members receive a feedback or feedback from the other members they have been dealing with (the feedback can vary from 0 to 100%). Thanks to this feedback system, you can see how did the previous transactions of any member go.
Registering on Delcampe is free but mandatory in order to carry out transactions.
If you are a buyer, using Delcampe is completely free.
If you are a seller, all you need to pay is a reasonable commission on the final price of an item but only if it is sold. Indeed, listing an item on sale is costless. Please check out our price list for more detailed information : http://www.delcampe.com/help.php?language=E&type=prices2
  return

The Delcampe team will always be there to help and listen to you in order to improve the services and the overall quality of the website while trying to keep it a serious and friendly place.

  return

What happens between the moment a member signs in and the moment he signs out is called a session. Relevant information can be stored when a member opens a session.
  return

In order to log in, you need to type your nickname and password wherever it is asked. Once you have done it, you do not need to do it again, at least until the next time you restart your computer. Being signed in will, for instance, display the time according to your own time zone because you had defined it in your personal info and settings when registering. This is one of the many advantages being signed in can bring to members.
  return

If you have lost your password, you can click on 'lost' just next to the password field. All you need to do is give your nickname or email address and a password will be automatically sent to your email address.
  return

Just go to “My Delcampe > Personal info”. Just replace the **** with your new password and retype it in the second field to avoid mistakes. Do not forget to click on 'apply' in order for the changes to be taken into account.
  return

Yes, you do not have to give your password and to log in each time you visit our website, even after your computer has been turned off. Sessions can remain open if you check the box next to “keep me signed in” in “My Delcampe > My Parameters”
But do not do this on computers which could be used by people you do not know.
  return

Click on “My Delcampe” in the Menu. Then click on “Personal Info” or “Parameters”. When changes are made, just click on the apply button.
  return

When going in your parameters, there are several boxes next to different flags. Just check the flags for the languages you know and it will be displayed next to your nickname for members wanting to get in touch with you.
When trying to get in touch with a member speaking another language, you can see a warning telling you that no common language has been found.
  return

In “My Delcampe > Personal Info”, choose 'yes' under “replace this image”, browse your computer for a new picture and apply changes. The image will be displayed on your personal page or each time you write a message in the Forum.
  return

Just send us an email telling us which nickname you would like to have and why. Check first if the nickname you want is not already used by another member. You can find it out by performing a “search by member” in the Menu.
Only your nickname will be changed, all the rest of you personal info will remain unchanged. However, you will have to let other members know about your new nickname.
  return

Just send your request to info@delcampe.be and, if possible, give us a short explanation.
  return

Thanks to the quick search field, whether you are on the homepage or within a specific category, you can perform searches on :
-Keywords within the titles of the items.

Advanced Search

To allow users a finer control of the search, Delcampe's Advanced Search page gives you more options for defining your search than a Simple Search does. The Advanced Search page addresses to experienced users.

Operator &

This operator means AND.

Example: tower & Eiffel

Will find in a random order all items that are about tower and Eiffel. Same as the Simple Search page "One word".

Operator

This operator means OR.

Example: tower | Eiffel

Will find in a random order all items that are about tower or Eiffel. Same as the Simple Search page "All words"

Operator -

This operator means NOT.

Example: tower -Eiffel

Will find all items that are about tower, but not Eiffel

Operator "" (quotation marks)

This operator searches for an exact sentence.

Example: "Eiffel tower"

Will find all items that are about Eiffel tower in that exact sequence. Same as the Simple Search page "Exact sentence"

Combining operators

Choosing the "Advanced syntax", a combination of the operators in one request is possible.

  • Typing in cathedral Paris|Brussels|London will find all items that are about the word cathedral and one of the words Paris, Brussels or London.

  • Hyphenated expressions deserve closer attention. As the operator - means "minus", hyphenated expressions must be written with quotation marks. Example: For items that are about St-Tropez or Saint-Tropez, you must type in "St-Tropez" or "Saint-Tropez"..

  return

This option is available for Gold sellers only. Once you have reached the store of any seller (Click on ‘search by seller’ on the Menu, choose a seller and click on the search button.), you will see a search engine on top of the list.
  return

On the member page, you will find a link allowing you to show all the items for this seller.
Or click on ‘search by seller’ on the Menu, choose a seller and click on the search button.
  return

Click on 'search by number' on the Menu. Type in the number of the item and click on the search button.
  return

You have many possibilities to sort a list of items. You can either use the links on top of each column or the various sorting options in the left frame. Thanks to the sorting options, you can:
- Sort by price
- Sort by title (a-z)
- Sort by time left
- Sort by starting date
- Sort by ending date
- Sort out the items with bids only
- Choose to see bigger, smaller, thumbnails or no image.
  return

You can choose to show enlarged pictures. When your page is showing a list of items, just go to "presentation" on the left panel and choose "large images". Finally, click on the "apply" button and, if you wish to apply these parameters to all lists of items, check the box corresponding to this feature. Thanks to this, pictures showned in lists of items will be bigger.
  return

During an auction sale, buyers place bids and the winner is the one with the highest bid when the auction ends. Whereas for fixed price sales, the winner is the first buyer making an offer and the sale ends with the first offer.
  return

The bid increment is the minimal amount a buyer needs to add to outdo a current bid.
  return

Just click on the price and a new window will pop up.
  return

When a seller chooses this option, all the nicknames are kept anonymous until the end of the sale. It is only when the sale has ended that nicknames become visible.
  return

When you are on the item page, find the place where you must type your nickname and password. Type in the maximum bid you are ready to pay for the item. Once you have defined a maximum bid, Delcampe will automatically overbid other buyers until your maximum bid is reached.
  return

Let's pretend you want to buy an item with a starting price set to 5 euros. You are ready to pay up to 20 euros for this item and you place a maximum bid of 20 euros on the item. When looking at the sale again, you can see that you are the best bidder and that the price is still 5 euros.
Later, another buyer shows up and wants to buy the same item. He sees that the price is 5 euros and places a 10-euro maximum bid. But since your maximum bid is 20 euros, Delcampe will automatically bid on your behalf. As a result, the item price will now be 10 euros and you will still be the highest bidder. If another bidder wanted to become the highest bidder, he would have to place a bid equal to your maximum bid plus the bid increment.
  return

It is very simple to do this. You just need to type in another amount, greater or equal to the former one.
  return

Sometimes, items can be overvalued by their sellers. In order to avoid these items from remaining unsold forever, buyers have the possibility of making lower price offers. But it is only possible if four conditions are fulfilled :
- The seller's parameters are set to accept lower price offers.
- The auction has been renewed at least 3 times.
- The offer must be a least half of the starting price.
Of course, even if those conditions are fulfilled, the seller still has the right to accept or to decline the offer. If he accepts the offer, the seller decides to end the auction or to keep it ongoing showing your offer as a starting price. Again, abuses cannot be tolerated.
  return

Buyers can ask Delcampe to withdraw a bid under certain circumstances.
If a buyer has made an offer by mistake, it can be withdrawn
-until 24 hours after it has been made
-if no other offers have been made for the same item
-if the buyer has not reached the maximum of 5 withdrawals a month
-if the buyer has sent an email to his seller asking for his approval.
If you need to withdraw an offer, you need to go to the item page and to open a session by signing in. In the yellow square you will find a link to 'Withdraw your offer for this sale'.
Note that if more than 24 hours have passed since you placed your offer, you can still send an email to your seller to warn him that you cannot buy the item.
  return

When clicking on any member's nickname, a window opens displaying his personal page.
  return

It is important to ask questions to your seller before bidding. If the image is blurry or if few or no details are given regarding the item, the price or the conditions of sale, we advise you to ask as many questions as possible to your sellers before bidding.
You can find a form where to ask your question just underneath the description.
  return

Once you have reached a member's personal page by clicking on his nickname, you can send him an email directly to his mailbox.
  return

You will receive an email of confirmation. This email will contain all the information you need to know about your seller.
  return

If someone places a bid a couple minutes before the auction ends, the ending time is automatically postponed to let other bidders the opportunity to react in time.
  return

When transactions are carried out outside of Delcampe, sellers avoid paying commissions on their sales. The small percentage we ask on successful sales helps us to maintain and to improve our servers and services. Besides, since there is no track of the transactions, Delcampe cannot help you in case of theft or dispute.
  return

“My Delcampe” is a very useful tool which keeps track of all your activity on Delcampe. When going to “My offers” section, you can see all the offers you have made for items you have won, lost or which are still being sold. All the questions asked and the answers given regarding items are also gathered under the above mentioned sections.
  return

When you buy something on Delcampe, you have to send the money directly to your seller.
  return

In general, the seller mentions which payment methods he/she prefers in the conditions of sale. Always ask your seller which payment method to use and what are the risks before bidding. In any case, we advise you to avoid sending money by regular mail.
Here is a list of the most commonly used payment methods:
-The E-Wallet
-Bank transfers
-Checks
-Cash (to avoid because too risky and forbidden in some countries)
-Credit cards
-Postal Money Order
-International bank transfer
-Paypal
  return

Usually, emails containing all the necessary information about your seller or buyer are sent as soon as the sale has ended. If you have lost it or deleted it, go to the item page. There, the personal info of your seller or buyer is displayed only if you are signed in
  return

Usually, The buyer pays first then the seller ships the item. But the seller can depart from this rule. Check the conditions of sale or contact your buyer to make sure.
  return

The answer to this question varies from sale to sale. It all depends on the shipping method, where the seller and the buyer live, how long it takes for the seller to receive the payment, etc… The best thing to do is, once again, to contact your seller for more details.
  return

Go to “My Delcampe > My Parameters” and choose the right currency. This setting will convert all the prices.
  return

On the Menu : click on “sell” and follow the instructions.
  return

-Auction sale: During an auction sale, buyers place bids and the winner is the one with the highest bid when the auction ends.
-Fixed price sale: A fixed price sale ends when the first buyer makes an offer. Overbidding is therefore not possible and the price asked by the seller remains unchanged.
-Reserve price sale : Reserve price sales start at € 0.01 but item remains unsold if bids to not meet the minimum expected price or the reserve price defined by the seller. This method is used to see how much buyers are ready to pay but also to bring the same forward since more bids will be placed on it. When the sale has ended, the seller still has the possibility to accept the highest offer, even though it does not meet the reserve price.
  return

No modification is possible when an offer has been made. Otherwise, you just need to click on “modify sale” when you are in “My Delcampe > My Sales Ongoing”. Do not forget to click on the 'apply' button. This can also be done on the item page.
  return

Same as modifying a sale. Click on “Close sale” when you are in “My Delcampe” or on the item page. If an offer has been made, you must inform your buyer.
  return

Just click on “close the sale” on the item page. If someone has placed a bid on your sale, you absolutely have to inform your buyer and explain why. The reason must be legitimate and does not prevent the buyer from leaving a feedback. Abuse can also be sanctioned.
  return

When you are selling an item, you can choose whether the nicknames of the bidders can be seen by other members. Just check the corresponding box on the selling form to apply it. When the sale has ended, nicknames become visible again.
  return

When a member places a bid on an item a little before the sale ends, the ending time is automatically postponed to let other bidders the opportunity to react in time.
  return

This list is updated every 24 hours. You might therefore wait until the following day to see your name on that list.
  return

Due to internet slowdowns, some items are put on sale more than once. Sellers sometimes think the procedure did not succeed because nothing happens when putting an item on sale so they repeat it until a message telling the procedure has been successful appears. To avoid this, check your on sale items to see if it has succeeded or not.
  return

The selection is automatic. The server picks out one hundred items with the highest price, with a bid on them and ending within the three following days.
  return

The given information define the terms of the transaction. It is therefore important that you give as much information as possible to avoid misunderstandings. Any flaw or crippling detail cannot be hidden from the buyers or it would be considered as a swindle. Forgeries are not forbidden but it must be mentioned very clearly in full capital letters in the title and description.
Here is all the information you must give to sell an item:
-Title :
Think of all relevant words describing your item which would help the buyer to find your item easily thanks to the search engine. Keep in mind that common words such as 'nice', 'cheap', 'coin', etc… are discarded by the search engine. This feature called 'stop words' improves the speed of the search engine.
-Description :
This information is only displayed on the page of the corresponding sale. Please give as much information as possible
-Category :
Choosing the right category is important. It helps buyers to find your item more easily and prevents other buyers from being annoyed when seeing wrong items in their favourite category. Iven if some items could fit in with more than one category but this is forbidden.
-Images :
Up to three images can be uploaded for each sale and for free. The size must not exceed 200kb. Only jpg, jpeg, gif and png files can be read. Just click on 'browse' to find the path of the images on your computer. The image must be as clear as possible and if details cannot be seen on the pictures, they have to be given in the description.
-Starting price :
It is the minimum price which you agree to sell your item for. It is the starting price of an auction sale.
-Bid increment :
The bid increment is the minimal amount a buyer needs to add to outdo a current bid.
-Conditions of Sale :
They are the same for all your sales. You just have to write them once in “My Delcampe > My Personal Info > My Message”. You must mention the preferred payment and shipping methods. If possible, add an approximate list of fees in your message (“My Delcampe > My Parameters”)
  return

You cannot do this if a bid has already been placed on the sale. If not, click on 'modify' when on the page of your ongoing sales or on the item page.
  return

When transactions are completely over, each member can evaluate the buyer or seller by giving a feedback and writing a comment. By looking at a member's feedbacks, we can get an idea of who we are dealing with.
Bad feedbacks does not always mean that its owner is guilty. Check the feedbacks received and given by a member to see how reliable he or she is and also to avoid doing the same mistakes previous members did.
The more positive feedbacks a member has, the more reliable he is.
A member is even more reliable if he is a Club+ member since there has been postal identification for those members.

Try to get in touch with your seller or buyer in order to find an agreement. Remain calm and polite. Being rude, not responding or showing no interest in solving the problem does not help. Any one doing is automatically in the wrong.

Not all the members have the same contact with Delcampe and the world of collecting. Some members sometimes have difficulties accessing the Internet and some have health problems or are away from home for a long time. There is always the possibility to see when was the last time a member opened a session. You can also see if his status is on 'away' and check if he gives further details in his/her message.
In brief, keep in mind that some members have very legitimate reasons if they do not answer right away.
Also, make sure that you or the member you want to get in touch with does no have a spam filter preventing you from receiving emails. Do not forget to check your messages folder in 'My Delcampe'.
If after a reasonable waiting delay you still do not get any answer, the seller can cancel the sale and restart it and the buyer can warn the seller that you give up the sale.
Remember that after three months, sales cannot be cancelled and reported as unpaid.
